ABOUT BUZZARDBALL WINTER LEAGUE

Coach holding basketball on court

21 years ago, a friend named Greg Nathanson approached me about taking over a youth basketball league he was running. At the time, just over 100 kids were playing from Kindergarten through 8th grade. Honestly, I was perfectly content coaching my own boys, Toph and Max. But after watching the league for a few years, a vision began to take shape — to create a recreational basketball league with a true NBA/WNBA feel.

Today, as we celebrate our 21st season, Buzzardball has evolved into more than just a league — it’s an experience for boys and girls who love the game of basketball.

The strength of that experience starts with our incredible families and community.

Buzzardball provides a safe, fun, and welcoming environment for players, coaches, and families alike. Our volunteer coaches — many of them parents — dedicate their time and energy to mentoring young athletes, teaching teamwork, discipline, and leadership through the game of basketball.

One of our most valued partnerships is with the Sacramento Kings. Thanks to our sponsors and families who purchase discounted Kings tickets, Buzzardball earns the opportunity to host our annual Championship Games at Golden 1 Center — a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our players that has become a tradition for over 15 years.

A defining feature of Buzzardball is our ALL-PLAY rule. Every player, regardless of skill level, gets equal time on the court. This rule builds confidence in beginners, fosters leadership in experienced players, and reinforces the values of teamwork and inclusion that define Buzzardball.

As the Director, I pour my heart and soul into every part of this league — from our NBA-style uniforms and league updates to the overall experience your child will have on and off the court. My goal has always been to create a league that kids love, families trust, and the community supports.

Take a moment to explore the website to see what makes Buzzardball so unique. If you have any questions, I’d love to hear from you.
